Latest Greens ReportGreenkeeper's Report July 2010 The hot weather continued throughout June, giving temperatures reaching high 20s. With the temperatures this high watering is a big part of our day. We are putting water, with a wetting agent which has been added to the irrigation tank, onto the greens. The wetting agent helps aid the water to penetrate the surface and reach the roots where it is most needed. With the weather being so warm the grass on the fairways is growing less, so mowing of these area can be reduced. This frees up time that then can be spent around the course. The 4th green has had heavy topdressing and over seeding to bring back a level, as well as filling the holes where the annual meadow grass has been hand cut out. Once again, we have unfortunately had vandals on the course over the last month, with damage being done to the halfway house. They have now turned their attention to the greens, the 6th in particular, with a moped having driven over the green and skidding. Thankfully the skid marks have nearly gone, with some over seeding and topdressing. They hit the course again by, putting lighter fluid on an area on the back of the 6th. We have done our upmost to try and stop the grass from dying, but it looks like we will have to spend some time patching this area. The greens are improving, with the height of cut slowly coming down, and watering being done every day. The new seed that has been worked into the greens is showing signs of growth and the areas of bent grasses on the green already are getting larger. Throughout the season, we are over seeding the areas of annual meadow grass by hand, to continually improve the putting surface. Please remember as you play your round to, repair pitch marks, rake bunkers and replace divots. |
