Towards the end of May brought some of the highest temperatures we have seen so far this year, but what we continue to lack is rainfall. Lots of metered water has been put onto the greens to help them through this hot dry time. Thankfully to say, from a green keepers point of view, the temperatures have dropped again as we approach June. Long term forecasts show a hot dry summer ahead which will be challenging. However we desperately need a regular supply of rainwater to aid our efforts of reseeding our greens.

The 1st green has seen a lot of hard work. Over the last few weeks we have seeded and topdressed by hand in small areas. Then leaving the back half of the green uncut for 5 days, to give the seed its best chance to germinate, before the mower cuts and collects it. We know that it has been difficult for members to accept, but the renovation we are doing will have long term quality effects for you all.

All the greens have been verti-cut in two directions, this will cut any of the grass trying to grown sideways and improve the putting surface. Light topdressing has been put on and rubbed into the greens to create a smooth roll of the ball.

Work will still need to be done, by hand, on a few areas on the greens over the coming weeks to get the new finer seed to take. This will include work on the 4th & 16th green to be done the same as the 1st.

Next on our hit list is the bunkers. It will help if members and players bother ro rake them properly. This is also helped if we do not have the mindless vandalism and theft by youths on the course. Seats, flags and rakes all disappeared. Please remember as always to replace your divot, repair your pitch mark and rake and bunker you stray into.
